‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the departed filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Devastating Incident
Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA over the weekend.
“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Legal Proceedings Unfold
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.
“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”
Family Members Issue a Message
Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”
Colleagues and Friends Remember
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner with a statement shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”
A Lasting Cinematic Legacy
When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.
Reiner’s extensive filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
