Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
