Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial championship series since 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Down 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.
Toronto's team secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
