The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
- Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
