The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive experience where a girl containing several human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.
Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.
An Environment of Personal Horror
"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."
The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.
Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision
Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."
Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.
"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
