A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
